A few weeks ago, I wrote on how minimalism changed my life. Seems extreme, of course, but when you aim to live out of a backpack and a carry on suitcase, almost everything is extreme, including how often I have to wash my underwear (let’s not discuss that…).
But what I didn’t expect it to do was change my religion. At all. For starters, I thought that minimalism was going to be a paring down of possessions, not of “value” in life. I thought it would increase my life’s value, and I thought that my religion was a part of that.
I was wrong.
Minimalism changed my religion. I used to be a Christian. I used to go to church every Sunday, go to youth group, read my bible, pray… all the things that we’re told we “should” do in order to be a Christian.
um… no.
Don’t get me wrong here; I’m still a Christian. I just don’t have a religion anymore. I have a relationship. Cliche? Yes. True?
Absolutely.
So yeah… my commitment to connect with people on a meaningful level every day actually worked out for my benefit. I’m still working on interactions with my family and friends, but I always see change in my relationship with Jesus first.
Minimalism got rid of my religion. And through my goals, made possible through mindful added value, I now have a relationship.
Keep it Simple,
Sarah
