Today, I've taken about two hours (don't limit yourself on time! Remember, there is no routine) to plan out the rest of my minimalism journey in my journal. Now, I'm not going to share exactly what my journal looks like, because:
But I will share what I included in mine, just to get you started, because:
First, I set goals for myself.
I want to be able to live out of a backpack or a messenger bag and a carry on suitcase that will hold my possessions and clothing, respectively. This is not to say that I will travel and live out of all of these, but to say that I want all my possessions to fit in a space that small. Then, I expanded on those goals, specifying what clothes and what possessions I wanted to eventually pare down to. A capsule wardrobe based on the season or just 15 items worn all year round? A laptop, my cello- obviously not in the backpack, but I expected and knew that coming into this- a few notebooks and some pens, and what else? Those cover the basics of what I enjoy doing- reading, writing, creating music- so do I really need anything else?
Then I set goals for my furniture- did I want only a bed and a bookshelf? How about a desk? Do I really need (if you're doing this for your whole house, for example) a dishwasher, or can I wash my dishes after I use them?
Creating a schedule was the harder part. How would I pare all of this down? When would I do it? How long would it take me? This pretty much forms the basis of the Journey Into Minimalism. I am essentially copying a less personal version of my journal entries and sharing them with all of you.
My journey, as of now, is exactly 25 days, but it'll probably take me around a month. I wish you the best in your journeys! Enjoy the process of learning to be mindful of the true value of life!
Simply yours,
Sarah
