Living somewhere where the climate changes all year round doesn't mean that you have to put together four separate capsule wardrobes, although several minimalists do. Even if you double pieces to work in several, if not all, capsule wardrobes, your closet might still be a little more stuffed than you'd like.
After recently getting rid of three garbage bags full of clothing from my closet, I purchased three tops and a pair of dress pants that I know are better quality and I'm wearing a lot more often.
But I'm not making them fit into the "capsule wardrobe" model.
Now, if Project 333 is your thing, then by all means, don't let me stop you. But if the thought of having to re-do your wardrobe every 3 months is intimidating, I have a solution:

Now, if Project 333 is your thing, then by all means, don't let me stop you. But if the thought of having to re-do your wardrobe every 3 months is intimidating, I have a solution:
Create one, slightly larger, capsule wardrobe that spans more seasons.
The Basics:
Simple in concept, but much harder to do. I ended up with 35 items in my final wardrobe- shirts, pants, jeans, shoes, and accessories. I didn't include underwear, pajamas, workout gear (which I use only to work out), or hair, makeup, and body care (although I simplified that as well).
First, I chose a color palette. I had a lot of neutrals (which is what I normally am drawn towards), and a lot of bold colors (which I never wear- bold isn't my thing). My final color palette looks like this:
This wardrobe is going to work all year round for me. I'm excited to have such a small wardrobe to work with!

- Base color: Purple (all shades- I love this color)
- Base color: Blue (either navy, very light, or very bright- I don't like medium blues)
- Neutrals: Cream and white
- Neutrals: Black and grey
- Accent: Light pinks
- Accent: Silver (for jewelry only)

Special Occasion Problems:Being Indian, I have a lot of Indian outfits. Also being a cello player at my church and school, I must be prepared with lighter pastels for Easter, reds or greens for holiday season, blacks and concert white for year round concerts, and formal hair accessories (because I must have the hair out of my face when I play; sight is a necessity). I pared down to one red and black formal top for the holidays, made sure that I had lighter pieces (light pinks, lavenders, creams) for Easter, blacks and whites as neutral staples, and one very formal white and silver hair clip that works with everything dressy. I did nothing with my Indian clothes except to get rid of what no longer fits. | The Logistics:
